Welcome to Ferndale Music Studio, located in the Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood of Vancouver, operated by Michael Simpsonelli, Sacha Levin, and their son Freddie(He's only 2 years old but he's definitely the musical director!). Here students learn guitar, ukulele, drum kit, bass guitar and hand drums like djembe, congas and more.

We believe that learning music should always be fun! Learn technique and theory, as well as your favorite songs. Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of each individual student.

Michael Simpsonelli

Vancouver musician Michael Simpsonelli is an in-demand multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and teacher. He works as session musician for many Vancouver bands, and has several original projects of his own - namely Shrinking MountainCrooked Rider, and Captain Future.  Simpsoenelli has been in the music business for 30 years - as performing musician, composer, teacher and recording engineer at various points in time . He studied in the Contemporary Music program at Vancouver Community College, and at the Columbia Academy Of Recording Arts.


  As producer, engineer, and co-owner at Red Light Sound studios in Vancouver, and has recorded artists of many genres. You can hear some of the recordings he has produced here.


As composer, he writes and records music for film and multimedia. In the past few years Simpsonelli did music for Network Entertainment's documentary film, "I am Chris Farley",  Perspective Films' 360 degree Virtual Reality film "Wonders of the world", Charles Wilkinson's documentary film , "Vancouver: No fixed address", and Shenpenn Khymsar's Tibetan gangster film "Lhasa Blues".

Simpsonelli has worked with countless artists, such as Juno Award winner and rapper Shad K (Host of Hip Hop Evolution on Netflix), Grammy Award winner Terry Townson(Ray Charles, The Temptations), Juno winner Gordon Grdina,  Juno nominee  Jason Burnstick,  CR Avery, Stewbaba, Steven Nikleva (Sarah Mclaughlan, Petunia and the Vipers), Monica Lee Band, Sarah Wheeler, Mark Berube, Queso Blanco (featuring Noah Walker of the Kitty and the Rooster), Anna Baignoche, Alita Dupray, and many more

Sacha Levin

Vancouver percussi­onist Sacha Levin has studied her craft in West Africa, Europe, and Canada. For over 15 years, Sacha has been performing and recording with some of the city’s top players. She has played alongside Sal Ferreras, Pepe Danza, Jack Duncan, and countless other heavy-hitters. She has shared the stage with artists as diverse as Julian Marley, Ron Sexsmith, Celso Machado, 5 Alarm Funk and Queer as Funk.
       She has toured and performed at festivals and concerts throughout Canada and the U.S. She spent 8 years playing with the worldwide Drum Café, with whom she performed as a drummer for the Vancouver Whitecaps. You may have seen Sacha on Television and in the Movies where she has been filmed playing various roles for 2007 Hollywood movie Catch and Release, and TV shows Jerimiah, and Stargate Atlantis. She has played in commercials for Bratz dolls and composed music for documentaries such as “Down Here” with her group Diva Drum, and “No Fixed Address” with her group Smash. She has toured Canada in children’s groups such as SWARM and Dumpsta Dragons playing over 750 school shows combined.
       As well as teaching private and group music classes, Sacha also works as a dance accompanist in the School for Contemporary Arts at  SFU, The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Arts Umbrella and many other dance companies including The Training Society, Harbour Dance, and Mascall Dance. Sacha continues to pursue her path as a percussionist, reaching out to all communities, constantly exploring the positive energy and healing power of rhythm. Establishing a meaningful link between rhythm and movement through music has always brought her passion.

  • Tuition fees reserve weekly lesson times, and are due at the beginning of each month.

  • Notification of inability to attend a lesson is a courtesy but does not excuse payment.


  • There are no refunds or credits for student absences. Therefore, there is no reduction in tuition for a missed lesson.


  • If student must miss a lesson, please notify us a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the lesson day that will be missed. Phone call, text, or email are all fine. No shows or failure to notify the studio within 24 hours are considered a forfeited lesson.


  • Make-up lessons may be available at teacher discretion, only if 24 hours notice has been given. Make-up lessons will only be given within 60 days of cancellation. Requests for make-ups are only accepted for illness or family emergency. Maximum of 1 make-up lesson per semester, subject to instructor and schedule availability. If a scheduled make-up lesson is missed, a second one cannot be scheduled.


  • If teacher finds it necessary to cancel a lesson that is already paid, the lesson credit will be applied to your next unpaid lesson.


  • No make-up lessons, credits or refunds will be granted in the event that the studio is closed due to extreme weather conditions.


  • Students wishing to discontinue lessons, please notify the studio 2 lessons before cancellation time.


  • NSF payments will be subject to a $20.00 fee.


  • Please do not send your child to their lesson if they have flu-like symptoms (fever, vomiting, etc.), or a bad cold.
